Cat

The word CAT  can mean several things. First and foremost CAT is of course the name of one of the world's most loved animals. Cats are bred in a number of varieties - far too many to name. Some popular breeds are Siamese, Persian, Himalayan, Maine Coon, Manx, etc.. Known as a feline, cats are of the carnivore family which also include tigers, lions, leopards and jaguars.

the word cat can also be used to describe a person - most prominently a man. A cat is also a description for someone who is a devotee of jazz music.

1. a small domesticated carnivore, Felis domestica  or F. catus,  bred in a number of varieties.

2. any of several carnivores of the family Felidae, as the lion, tiger, leopard or jaguar, etc.

In 1965 Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin starred in a comedy-western named Cat Ballou. The film tells the story of a woman who hires a famous gunman to protect her father's ranch, and later to avenge his murder, but finds that the man she hires is not what she expected. Lee Marvin won an Oscar for his dual role. The name of the movie came from Jane Fonda's character Catherine Ballou.

One of the most successful musicals of all-time is the stage play "Cats" which was composed by the famed Andrew Lloyd Weber based on the book "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". "cats" first opened in 1981 and hit Broadway in 1982.
